BON JOVI - HERE & THERE & WHATNOT
(Thursday, August 10, 2006)
Now that the HAVE A NICE DAY tour is winding down, we thought we'd take this time to leave you with a cornucopia of information, odds & ends of info and answers to some questions that we've been alerted have come up via the message boards and the Q&A function (limited as its lifespan looks to be.)
BON JOVI ended their HAVE A NICE DAY tour on Saturday, July 29th at Giants Stadium in New Jersey. This is the last date of the tour and it marks the end of the entire HAVE A NICE DAY album/tour cycle. No more singles. No more videos. No more concerts. No more promotional activity (radio, TV, print.)
BON JOVI had a massive banner with the smirk and WHO SAYS YOU CAN'T GO HOME on it, hanging from the side of GIANTS STADIUM during their stand there. If you go to the news item with the note from the band, you can see the band with the banner. Now that the shows and the tours are over, the banner has come down. The stadium made the banner in honor of the band's shows there; the stadium stores it. And we'd like to see that storage locker. The banner itself measured 50’ x 180’. The installation process took about five to six hours to complete. The banner actually consisted of two 50’ x 90’ panels. One boom truck raised the banner panel-by-panel. Once raised, the panels were clipped off to a cable on top of the stadium. The two panels were then bolted together to create the overall banner. The final step was to tie the banner off at the bottom and to pull it tight on either side with ratchet straps affixed to the building. The banner was made of mesh and was reinforced with webbing (similar to the material used to make seat belts) on all four sides of each panel to protect it against high wind loads. The band members, their staff and the team who helped make the Giants Stadium show happen were presented with miniature versions of the banner (12" x 30") framed as a commemorative gift. The band members received theirs from the Giants Stadium folks on July 27th, when they were on site to do a group photo in the parking lot in front of the banner.
For the month of August, the band is enjoying some well-deserved vacation time. They're laying low, enjoying time with their families and friends. They might surface here or there but for the most part, it's vacation time. All that changes at the start of September. BON JOVI will be part FASHION ROCKS on September 7th. They will be part of a multi-artist bill and will perform one song on the program.
Speaking of programs, if you're jonesing for a fix of Bon Jovi, there are some TV appearances coming up:
TONIGHT, AUGUST 10TH at 8:00PM ET, CMT will reair the fan favorite, CROSSROADS featuring BON JOVI and SUGARLAND. Check your local listings and for more info, visit www.cnn.com
TUESDAY, AUGUST 15TH at 9:00PM ET, CNN's LARRY KING LIVE is planning to (finally) air the twice-postponed one-hour JON BON JOVI interview. Given its a 24-hour news channel, they will revert to breaking news as it happens - hopefully, there will be enough calm in the world to allow them to keep to the plan of airing the interview, which is a great hour with Jon. Check your local listings and for more info, visit www.cnn.com
AUGUST 22nd is the airdate for JC PENNEY JAM CONCERT FOR AMERICA'S KIDS. JON BON JOVI (along with Bobby Bandiera, Jeff Kazee and Lorenza Ponce) pre-taped a performance of WHO SAYS YOU CAN'T GO HOME back in NYC on May 4th. A live event taped in LA in June is the anchor for this program. For more information, please visit http://music.aol.com/jcpenney-jam-event
Check out EXTRA tomorrow night (August 11th) -- there's going to be a brief piece about Jon Bon Jovi, The Philadelphia Soul, celebrity autographed football jerseys and raising money for charity. Then, check back here next week and we'll share how you can bid on these items. More info next week...
BON JOVI invited some environmentally friendly organizations to their July shows with a goal towards education. If you were at the shows, you likely saw the movie trailer for AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH which was screened between acts on the big screens. The partner site for the movie is www.climatecrisis.net and also shown on screen was the information for www.stopglobalwarming.org Finally, at most of the shows, volunteers from Rock The Earth (www.rocktheearth.org) and Native Energy (www.nativeenergy.com) were on hand distributing information. IF you're interested in learning more, please feel free to visit any of these organizations websites.
Now that the tour has ended, all the merchandise that was out on the road made its way back to the LA warehouses. It's being inventoried and then prepared to be added to the items available at www.bonjovionline.com -- so stay tuned, within a few weeks lots of items that were available on the road will make their way to the Official Bon Jovi Online Store.
What does the future hold? A whole lot of good stuff. But there is NO information that is definitive and confirmed and worthy of writing in blood, or engraving into stone or even breaking out the Sharpie to mark down on your calendar. Jon has discussed a few projects on the horizon -- talk of going to Nashville to write with Nashville based songwriters and work with country artists... a second greatest hits album... a new studio album... new movies... This is all the talk of a man and a band very excited about the great things on the horizon. But please keep in mind, everything will unfold on its own timeline and you'll need to wait for the band to share real information with you when its confirmed. If you continue to check back with www.bonjovi.com, as official, legitimate and authentic news and information is confirmed and ready to be shared, it will be! If you want it to be real, it will come from the band.
For now, we suggest a beach, a hammock, some flipflops, a margarita and a cowboy hat tipped to block out the sun. Enjoy your summer.
