The Demo to Final Cut
Lisa M. of Operation Bon Jovi asks Bon Jovi Info HQ about Bon Jovi's demo to final cut process...

Question:
Once the demo of a song is done and the band goes to cut it for an album, do they tend to stick to the original framing of the tune or do they usually wind up restructuring it a bit? How much room and time is there for changes if they find that they aren't happy with a song just yet but don't want to give up on it either?

Answer:
The demo is a blueprint... it can be enhanced, pared down, changed, restructured... anything goes. It will vary from song to song. They can put a song down and pick it up again... there's no one way it works. There's an intense creative process that goes into every track the band is working on... but at some point, if they don't feel it is a song they want to push further, they could set it aside. No definitive m.o. that is true for each and every demo/song.
